Hanbali, Shafi'i, and Maliki Sunnis make up the second largest religious group in the city, while the Zaydi Shia are the smallest. The Arabic term "Najrān" has dual meanings: it can refer to the wooden frame on which a door swings open, and it also means 'thirsty'.
