About the destination

King Abdullah Economic City is a major development project that began in 2005 in Saudi Arabia. This planned city is being built along the Red Sea, around 100 km north of Jeddah. Covering a total urban area of 168 km², it lies between the holy cities of Mecca and Medina and the commercial hub of Jeddah. It has been designed with large buildings and skyscrapers, and aims to become one of the most important cities in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East. The project is estimated to cost around 100 billion riyals, or 26.6 billion US dollars. The city is intended to act as an economic hub for young people in Saudi Arabia. Key access routes will include a port with an annual capacity of 10 million TEU containers, an international airport, and a railway linking the country’s main cities.
